Why are Risk Assessments Important?
Risk assessments are important as they reduce the risk of injury when taking part in sport and create a safe sporting environment. They state what the risk was, how it could harm somebody, and a solution to reducing the risk. Each of the above risk assessments have been put into place to keep us safe while taking part in the activities. For example, one of the risks on go-ape was not clipping yourself in properly, and a way to reduce this risk is to check twice and also get a friend to check you have done it right. That way you have ensured that it is done properly and if it isnt your friend will say its not right so you are able to put it on correctly. Whoever is in charge of you or your group is the person held responsible for completing a risk assessment enuing that while we are under their care we are safe and have reduced any possible risks of injury by going through safety briefings with us. Risk assessments are optional, they are a law such as the health and safety at work act. The HSE have said there at 5 steps to risk assessment:
1.Identify the hazards
2.Identify who can be harmed
3.Identify the current controls
and decide if more is
required?
4.Record your findings
5.Review as necessary
Stick to these 5 steps and you are going to do a good risk assesment everytime. If your supervisor wasn't to do a risk assessment and someone was to get harmed, the supervisor would be to blame and would face charges or maybe even imprisonment dependant ond the severeness of the injury.
