What is Mountain Biking?

Mountain biking is riding bikes off road and usually over a rough surface using mountain bikes.Its is broken down into different categories which are: cross country, trail riding, all mountain, downhill, freeride, slopestyle, dirt jumping and trials. Mountain biking requires muscular endurance, strength and balance and also experience in riding bikes. Mountain bikes are specifically designed to ride over different terrains. You will be required to wear a helmet when participating in mountain biking, only to keep you safe!

Mountain biking has different grades for how experienced you are, starting at green which is easy where usually families and young children take part as their wont be as many challenging slopes or the terrain wont be as rough to black which is classed as severe where you will usually find expert mountain bikers with a high level of experience riding. The terrain will be much more rough than on a green trial.

Trail Grading
UK MTB trails use colour codes to tell you what to expect. The colours are based on those used for cross-country skiing routes. The table below shows you what the colours mean for UK mountain-bikers. For more detailed information see the link below:
