Orienteering

What is orienteering?

Orienteering is an outdoor sport which requires you to find your way around a course whilst running, using a detailed map or a compass. You have to find your way through a sequence of set control points and decide the best way to finish the route in the quickest time. It does not matter how young, old or fit you are, as you can run, walk or jog the course and progress at your own pace. It can take place anywhere; from school playgrounds to open countryside to remote forests. Its a great sport for runners who wish to improve on their navigation skills.

Courses
There are different levels of courses which is your option to choose which is best for you, starting from white which is quite an easy course. They are mainly used by 6-10 year olds and family groups. The hardest of courses is black which is for experienced orienteers only. It is quite hard to find your way around and is a test of your physical fitness such as your cardiovascular endurance, your speed and strenght.
